College Scholarship?

Written by admin on February 25th, 2009

ok im a senior in High School and have already been accepted to a handful of universities and gotten some scholarships just not full rides or anything like that

i was wondeing if i go to a community college for 2 yrs. and get a 4.0 could i get a full ride to a state college for the remaining 2 yrs.

i know i am capable of a 4.0 cause i got a 28 on the ACT and my HS gpa is a 3.2 (i just slacked off 1st 2 yrs)

is it possible to earn a full ride out of community college?

finances are an issue for me
i took all advanced classes in HS no really easy classes

It probably isn't possible to get a full ride scholarship even with coing to CC for 2 years…

And don't kid yourself… If you couldn't get a 4.0 in HS (with weighted classes) then you WILL NOT be able to get a 4.0 in EVEN A CC…

Aim for a more reasonable 3.5GPA

Just apply for more scholarships.

Go to fastweb or scholarships.com

Good luck.

Where can I find a college scholarship for lower middle class white females?

Written by admin on February 23rd, 2009

I am currently attending community college and looking for scholarships. All I can find are programs for minorities or disabled people. Where is the poor white trash scholarship fund? I can’t find anything that I am eligible for. I am unmarried, have no children, am making minimum wage, and attending school part time. Am I missing something or am I screwed?

Generally, if you file for your FAFSA’s — you get all available grants and federal loans that apply to you.

Make sure, when going to this website that it has the “.gov” in the web address. There are quite a few impersonators out there.

The Address is www.fafsa.ed.gov

Before filling out your fafsa form however, you must apply for a pin at

www.pin.ed.gov

If you are a dependent, you must also apply for another pin for one of your parents.

The pin is your signature, since everything is now officially done over the computer and no paper forms are allowed to be mailed in. Good Luck!

ALSO: You might be eligible for loans.

Subsidized loans are offered to students based on demonstrated financial need. So as long as your income taxes present this to the government, then you will be able to accept a Fed Dir Sub Loan.

Subsidized loans are the best loans because the federal government pays off the interest of the loan while you are still in school and during the grace period. They start charging you interest only after the grace period, which comes after you’ve graduated from college.

So, filing your FAFSA’s and renewing it each year would make you qualified and/or eligible for:

Scholarships
Federal Loans (Bank loans are evil. Stay away!!)
Federal Grants

Also, if you file your fafsa’s it gives your universities financial office the ability to hand out a university scholarship or grant, based on how much more money you would need.

If you receive well beyond the necessary amount of money, you get that back from your school in a form of a refund check.

With this check you can purchase a laptop and textbooks (Which could run you to about $300-$500 a semester, depending on your courses.

I would advise you keep the rest of the money in a high-interest savings account so that if you don’t receive much money in the following years, you can dip into your original funds.

Good Luck!!

What are the secrets of writing a winning college scholarship essay?

Written by admin on February 20th, 2009

I have entered several scholarship essay contests recently, and have not won anything. I have been told by teachers that I am a good writer, so I want to know what is going on. I realize that millions of people enter these things and I'm up against a lot of competition, so I want to know how to make my essays stand out. I especially have trouble writing essays with a word limit… how can I get all my ideas into a condensed essay and make it sound effective.

I will really appreciate all your feedback. I am a desperate student who needs college money in the worst way possible!! Any suggestions/tips/tricks/secrets/methods will help!!! Thanks, guys!

Okay, Sherrah, I can tell you that it sounds like your big problem might be succinctness. It's not how much you say but what you have to say and how you say it. If you can replace five words with one - do it!

Other than that, make sure that your grammar and spelling are perfect and that you stay on topic. Tangents are bad.

That is my best advice. I also found a couple of websites that give you some great step-by-step advice.

Good luck to you!
